Overview: The temple is regarded as one of the first Buddhist and oldest officially-administered temple in Japan, although the temple complex and buildings have been rebuilt over the centuries. Shitenno means “Four Heavenly Kings” who live and guard Cardinal Directions north, south east and west. Prince Shōtoku was known for his profound Buddhist faith when Buddhism was not widespread during the 6th century. In order to popularize Buddhism, Prince Shōtoku lead a massive national project to promote Buddhism and also known as founder of Horyuji temple, the oldest wooden building, in Nara.

Yesterday, I enjoyed digging up sweet potatoes in Miyoshi Town, Saitama Prefecture, which is designated as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Site (GIAHS). As I am also registered as a Concierge for Miyoshi Town's GIAHS, I had fun helping out a little. These sweet potatoes are a typical crop grown on farmland developed in the early Edo period using fallen leaf compost farming methods, and were brought to Edo and became famous as Kawagoe potatoes. After listening to an explanation of the farming methods that have been passed down based on the sustainable farming methods that began in the Edo period and incorporate new technologies such as the latest agricultural machinery, we actually enjoyed digging up sweet potatoes by hand, the old-fashioned way. Yesterday, I enjoyed of working as a Tokyo Metropolitan Tourist Volunteer at Odaiba for the first time in a while. During the summer, I couldn't do much volunteer work, but the weather has become better and I have more opportunities to volunteer.Odaiba is fun because there is always something new to talk about. The Aomi district, which was a little lonely after the Ferris wheel was gone, is steadily building a gymnasium that will be the base for the professional basketball team, and we are looking forward to its opening next autumn.A "supercar" show was held in the square in front of Gundam, attracting many people. It seems that the exhibition was for supercar owners to bring their precious cars and show them to fans. There was also a stamp rally where participants went around various facilities in Odaiba to collect Gundam stamps. Yesterday and the day before, I was assigned a task work for the first time since spring, showing guests who came to Japan on a cruise ship around Tokyo's tourist spots and taking them to the airport after disembarking. The cruise ship I assigned this time crossed the Pacific Ocean from Alaska and arrived in Otaru about four days ago, then docked in Tokyo. It was a ship with many seniors and elegant persons on board, and children were not allowed on board.Many of the passengers were visiting Tokyo for the first time, so I took them on a bus ride through the city center, explaining the popular tourists’ spots such as Tokyo Tower or the State Guest House that could be seen from the window of coach, and guiding them the Imperial Palace and the Skytree.I usually guide small families and groups on custom-made itineraries using public transportation such as the subway, but it was quite a challenge to explain the surrounding scenery from the bus window one after another to about 30 customers, and to guide them so that they don't get lost in the crowded the Skytree and Solamachi shopping town. I also walked slowly, being considerate of senior passengers, and walked shorter distances than usual, so I thought my legs wouldn't get too tired, but standing and sitting on the bus and talking to face to customers seemed to put a lot of strain on my legs, and yesterday my legs were so tired I had to give them a massage in the bathtub long time.Still, I completed the whole trip without any passengers getting lost, and when we got off the bus, everyone was smiling and I even received a small tip, so I guess it was all good.Of course, there are many small things I could have done better, and I need to improve one by one. ... もっと見る表示を減らす

Tokyo has finally became more comfortable days since the autumn equinox. Yesterday and today, I worked as a Tokyo Metropolitan Government tourist volunteer for the first time in a while. On Sunday, I was busy in Ginza, giving instructions to tourists who were lost and providing information on recommended spots. The heat wave continued in July and August, and we were hardly able to do outdoor volunteer work, so it's been a while since I last did this. This time, the person on my team was knowledgeable about the local Ginza area, and I learned a lot from him, such as a coffee shop with a bonsai tree in an alleyway and a popular bakery that is popular with foreigners. Today, I also gave a tour of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building and provided information about the observation deck, which was also my first time doing this in a while. When we do volunteer work like this, I can not only provide information from ourselves, but also get a lot of information from the same team members and guests.
